Boys' Basketball
All boys in grades 5 through 8 are eligible to play basketball. The boys' season starts in October and continues through November. The boys' and girls' teams rotate every two years for which group will start in the fall. Games are played at home and away, with the Gators playing teams throughout the Gallatin Valley and surrounding areas. Boys who participate at this level will be prepared for high school try-outs if they wish to continue after middle school.
Cheerleading
All students grades K-4 are invited to join cheerleading. Cheerleaders will hold practice twice a week after school, and participate in three expos. Come join the fun!
Girls' Basketball
All girls in grades 5 through 8 are eligible to play basketball. The girls' season starts in January and continues through February. Track & Field
All students in grades 5 through 8 are eligible to participate in track & field. the track season starts in late March and continues until mid-May. Track meets are held throughout the Gallatin Valley and surrounding areas. Students have the opportunity to compete in several different events as individuals and in small teams. Students who participate at this level will be prepared for high school try-outs if they wish to continue after middle school.
Volleyball
All girls in grades 5 through 8 are eligible to play volleyball. The girls' season starts in early September and continues until mid-October. Games are played at home and away, with the Gators playing teams throughout the Gallatin Valley and surrounding areas. Girls are taught the basic fundamentals of volleyball and then apply these principles in practice and during games. Girls who participate at this level will be prepared for high school try-outs if they wish to continue after middle school.
Wrestling
All students in grade K through 6 are eligible to participate in wrestling. The wrestling season starts in February and continues until mid-March. Students are divided by age and weight to wrestle during competitions. The Gators wrestle in tournaments throughout southwestern Montana. Wrestling is an individual sport which requires tremendous support of other team members, parents and friends.
To participate in Sports at GGS the following requirements must be met:
1. Athletic Handbook
Athletes must read through the Gallatin Gateway School Athletic Handbook available in the links below.
- Athletes may not participate in practice or games without a current sports physical.
- Sports physicals can be completed with a family physician or by appointment at GGS by the school nurse. Call the office to schedule.
3. Health Insurance
- Athletes may not practice or play in games without proof of health insurance.
- Provide health insurance carrier and policy information.
- Families without health insurance may use Special Markets Insurance Consultants (SMIC). Forms online at www.k12specialmarkets.com.
4. Uniform Agreement/Booster Fee
- All athletes will be loaned a uniform. Players must provide their own shoes (knee pads for volleyball, shorts for track).
- A $100 participation fee is required per sport and is payable to GGS. Assistance is available, please fill out the scholarship form.
5. Parent Meeting:
- Parents and athletes must attend a parent meeting for each sport either before the season begins or following the first practice to understand policies, expectations, and schedules for the season. An email will be sent regarding day and time.
- GGS will collect participation fees. In addition, uniforms will be checked out to those who have paid registration fees at or before the meeting.
6. Transportation:
- As a small school district we do not have the ability to transport athletes using a school bus. We depend upon parents to transport student athletes to and from athletic events. In order for your student to ride with an approved parent driver a Student Transportation Liability Release form must be completed for the school year.
- If you are willing to become an approved parent driver please fill out the Volunteer Driver Auto Insurance Request form, and provide copies of required documents for retrieval of your driving record.
All paperwork should be returned to Ms. Clark at the school office.
